It's only been a week since the last letter. Life must be getting more exciting. Oh, wait, I live in Princeton. Never mind... Feature Article: Spontaneous mothers? ------------------------------------------------------ Inside each mom is a ball of random events waiting to happen. This will be my testimony (yeah). Last Sunday, I finally convinced my mom to go see Fantasia 2000 with me. It was a pretty uphill battle for a month. The feature only plays in IMAX theaters, and is about ten bucks for an hour and a half, so Mom kept pulling the "not-monetarily-efficient" argument. But I convince her and we make our plans to go Saturday (Mar. 4). Saturday comes, and we take the train up and make it in time. We watch the flick and for once, Mom doesn't fall asleep during a movie I pick. It actually happens a lot. She fell asleep in the middle of "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves," for crying out loud! So she didn't fall asleep, which is a good thing. It was a really good movie. Disney's managed to put out a pretty good film. This time around, the classical pieces are a little bit more famous, like Beethoven Fifth and "Pomp & Circumstance," the ole graduation song. The animation was interesting, with stuff like Donald Duck's part in Noah's Ark and a pod of flying whales. My two favorite parts were "The Steadfast Tin Soldier" piece and Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue." So we watch the movie and it's all good. We get out of the theater and we're trying to figure out what to do now. As Mom put it, it'd be a waste to go all the way to New York and go home at One in the afternoon. So we walk around for a while, and we come across the New Amsterdam Theater, where "The Lion King" is playing (Don't worry, I haven't become Disney's corporate whore, I assure you. More on that later). So on a whim, Mom decides we should watch it! So we walk into the ticket office and they're sold out. Until JUNE. I figure that's the end of that and we walk out. When we get outside, mom darts off and when I find her, she's standing in the cancellation line! FYI, that's where people stand on the off hopes that there are people that don't show up for the show and we get there tickets. So we stand there for 45 minutes, and we get in! If you don't know what I'm talking about, don't worry about it. - Got Fantasia 2000 soundtrack. It's kinda strange, how it took a movie to get me interested in classical music again. - Started work on a Compilation CD. It's something I'll keep in the car, since it was inspired by "Crazy Taxi" got a bunch of what are in my opinion, essential driving songs. - Disney/ABC is really pissing me off. I guess I was just born anachronistic. Anyway, Ole Gary has twenty-five years worth of anecdotes and humorous tales to share, if only you'd tune into National Public Radio once in a while. Never would I have thought, if you had presented this to me five years ago, that some monotonous speaker from St. Paul Minnesota would make me laugh. but he does. It's really weird. It's not sarcastic humor, and it's not Lukas-type humor (if there is such a thing) but it's some type of humor that somehow everybody finds funny.
