Time ta do this properly! What with School canceled today cuz of snow, I guess I have the free time to write one of these. Feature Article: Flashback! ------------------------------------- So what's been going on for ole Lukas Chen? When we last left our hero (yeah, right), almost two months ago, He was neck deep in college apps and stress. And now? No college Apps, and far less stress. So nothing happened for the month of December until Christmas break. Due to some clerical error, we only got one week off from school. So this means I spent a good amount of my time when I was supposed to be relaxing and sleeping for staying up late and working like a dog! But my crowning achievement, nine college essays in four days, revisions and everything, all of them good stuff. After that, I had bunches of school work to do. All my teachers knew it was soon to be lethargy time, so they all squeezed in "last semester" projects and the like. So I had to fight my impending Senioritis, as well as the residue from my Freshmanitis, Sophomoreitis, and Junioritis to get stuff done. In my film class, we were split into groups, each one having to explain a certain genre. My group, we got GANGSTER FILMS! Each one of us had to watch a couple movies, so I picked Scarface (the old 1930s version), The Untouchables (ah, Sean Connery is still the man!), and The Godfather Part II. Man, do I love that class . . . In Gym we're having a midterm. A WRITTEN MIDTERM IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION! IT'S THE MOST MORONICALLY IDIOTIC THING I'VE EVER HEARD! And it's on basketball and floor hockey! It was supposed to be today, but thanks to my snow day . . . In AP Physics, we had our midterm three week early! AAUUGGHH!! But it was only on mechanics, so I manages to pull an A- (even though I was like the lowest score in the class). I tell ya, There are us, the smart cool people, and then there are the nerdy ambitious freshmen who outdo me in class! rrrrr . . . Urge to kill, rising . . . In Human Behavior, we had to design our own school. Pretty cool, I thought at first, with visions of moving walkways and REAL food in the cafeteria. But then she said we needed to figure out a budget, plan a daily schedule, and back everything up with research. So I conveniently gave myself the job of designing and constructing the school. At first, we figured foam board would be good enough, but it wouldn't cut strain without getting a jagged edge or ripping. So then we used Basil Wood, and it saved our lives. At first, I thought our school didn't look so hot, but then we brought it in, and we blew the competition out of the water. No, first we threw pieces of meat into the water to make them nervous, then we dropped a depth charge to blow them out of the water! Ah, it feels good to totally dominate . . . But more importantly, during the past two months, I've been actually going out and doing things! I saw Toy story 2, which, as I told you, is frickin hilarious. It's even better than the first, and it's got out takes to boot. I also saw Grave of the Fireflies, an anime movie about Japan in World War II. There are few movies, animated or otherwise, that made me cry as hard. It's a really touching story that I highly recommend. I recommend it so much, that, since our genre presentations for Film class take away the need for a midterm, I'm presenting the movie in class during our really long midterm class period. I also got a bunch of people together and we had a Super Smash Brothers Tournament. It was really cool. If you have the N64, this is like one of five games that are the system's saving grace. What else . . . I started listening to Cake. They sound really good, and I've really taken a liking to "The Distance," which I count as one of the coolest songs I've ever heard. But then, I haven't heard much, so . . . News Boxers ------------------ - Hm. Kinda decimated since I said most stuff in the flashback . . . - Just got word: Clerks is gonna be a prime time animated series! on ABC, of all people! This after all the hullaballo over Dogma. It premieres in March, so mark your calendars! - Uh, Happy birthday to me? yep, As of Jan 14 (which was all of 11 days ago) I'm eighteen! Now I can rent pornogra- I mean, buy cigarre- I mean, uh, vote! Yeah, vote . . . - Midterms are delayed, but the only two I really have are World Literature and Gym. But they still expect me to go to class. rrrrr . . . - Oh yeah. Had my Harvard interview way back in like November, but forgot to mention it. Did pretty good, even showed him a piece of art work i did for the School buzzbook that was deemed to risque, and he seemed impressed. Now if I could only hack the school computers and raise my GPA . . . THIS IS COOL ------------------------------------------------------------------------- - "Stark Raving Mad" It's a TV show on NBC, comes on right after Fraiser on Thursdays. It's absolutely hilarious. There Ian Stark, a Steven-King like writer, and his editor whose name I forget, played by Neal Patrick Harris (Doogie Howser!). Anyway, Harris is this really uptight guy who washes his hands whenever anybody shakes hands with him, and Stark is like the complete opposite, and he loves to make fun of Harris. Like the first time Harris came over, Stark pretended he hung himself, and Doogie almost wet his pants. From there, the show just gets funnier and funnier. It's really worth tuning in. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- SAY WHAT?! "If I were going to talk about someone behind their back, I'd do it to their face." - Lauren Polakov reminds us yet again how she got into Cornell Early Action. - LuKas "Be seeing you" ___________________________________________________ Get your own FREE Lukas Update Newsletter!
